Say Good Bye to Germs with the Antimicrobial Keyboard

Saturday, June 6, 2009

Today, we are living in disease-prone world. So, it has become extremely important for us to protect ourselves and our family from deadly diseases. The best way to keep the diseases away is to follow a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle is not just eating nutritional food, but also to live in a clean and germ-free environment. The need for personal hygiene is increasing everyday with the spread of contagious diseases like swine flu. So, it is better to keep things clean both in office and at home. Although, you can clean the floor, wall, table, and chair with water, it is definitely not possible for you to clean electronic devices with water. So, the chances for germs getting multiplied in them are very high.
Have you ever thought of washing your keyboard or mouse with water? It may sound ridiculous. But, this is certainly possible with the invention of the washable keyboard. You may wonder what would be the necessity for a washable keyboard. The answer is very simple. This keyboard will help you protect yourself from bacteria.

Recently, an article by Infection Control Today, August 2007 edition, says that "The keyboards used in the hospital are the main cause of infection. Bacteria have a tendency to live and grow on keyboards for nearly 24 hours and thereby spreading the dreadful infections all around". Do bacteria really proliferate in a keyboard? Yes, it will. In a standard keyboard the bacteria grows underneath and in-between keys. It is not possible for you to clean them with water. To overcome the effect of infectious bacteria developed and spread from keyboards, Tupelo Super Store offers you the Silver Seal Antimicrobial Keyboard.

This washable keyboard is made from Silver Seal antimicrobial plastic, which offers complete resistance against surface bacteria. The Silver Seal Antimicrobial Keyboard prevents the growth and spreading of harmful bacteria. It provides absolute protection against cross-contamination. You can easily clean this computer keyboard with water. The Silver Seal Antimicrobial Keyboard's laser-etched keys will not get faded away by washing. Tupelo Super Store also offers you the Silver Seal Antimicrobial Mouse to complement the keyboard. Not just for hospitals, this washable keyboard and mouse are ideal for schools, labs, and more.

The PRS-700BC Reader Digital Book is the newest chapter for Sony in the developing saga of the eBook readers. This reader has a very impressive 6.0-inch, touch screen display, which lets you turn pages with the slide of a finger. It uses an electronic paper display developed by E Ink Corporation that has 166 dpi resolution, four levels of grayscale, is viewable in direct sunlight, requires no power to maintain a static image, and is usable in portrait or landscape orientation. In addition to a built-in light, you can also create annotations with a virtual keyboard, highlight text with a stylus pen, search for text and easily adjust the font size. A faster processor gives you quicker response times when opening content or turning pages.
It's not just about using it to read digital books. The Sony® PRS-700 Reader Digital Book includes an eBook Library 2.5 PC Software, an iTunes Store-like interface to purchase books from Sony Connect eBook store. It also can display Adobe PDFs, ePub format, personal documents, blogs, RSS newsfeeds, JPEGs and Sony's proprietary BBeB ("BroadBand eBook") format. Publishers including Harper Collins, Random House, Simon & Schuster, and Penguin are offering texts in the epub format. The Reader can play unencrypted MP3 and AAC audio files.

With thousands of eBook titles available at the eBook Store from Sony and other participating websites, you can choose to download new releases, classics or other popular book titles. The internal memory will hold approximately 350 average size digital books and hundreds more with an optional removable Memory Stick or SD memory cards.

Sony introduced its eBook Reader in 2006 with the PRS-505 model. Now these models , can also be access and accept secure and non-secure ebooks in the ePub format. These models are available in Sangria Red, Silver and Dark Blue. Current owners of the PRS-505 model can upgrade their units from the Sony support site: http://esupport.sony.com. The PRS-505 model Readers will continue to support BBeB formatted eBooks offered at the Sony eBook Store. So these users can retain and grow their current collections of eBooks without having to reformat or repurchase them. All files are conveniently managed by the eBook Library software.

The sony Readers compete with other electronic book devices such as the Amazon Kindle and now the Kindle 2, iRex iLiad, the Jinke Hanlin eReader, and CyBook by Bookeen. One major feature that is noticeably lacking in Sony's latest eBook reader is a wireless connection. The Kindle can download e-books from Amazon over a Sprint EVDO wireless connection or by connecting it to a home computer.

Robot Toys and the future of Robotic Toys

Thursday, February 26, 2009

There is no doubt that robotics has played a large role in the toy industry from being put into some of the first simple gears and moving parts to advanced robotic toys. The past was riddled with questions on whether or not robots would ultimately become a household instance, but toys with robotic components are available now to answer that question. Robot toys are becoming more advanced with more movable parts, programming and engineering that could easily be used in real world applications and lifelike movement.

The Robosapien series by WowWee brand of products exhibits many of these characteristics of modern robot toys. Robosapiens are bimorphic, multifunctional robots with a full range of dynamic movements. Many of the abilities of the Robosapien are interactive with 67 pre-programmed functions and the ability to be programmed by remote in 4 different modes is an amazing feat in a consumer robot toy for children.
Present robotic toys are very lifelike and differ very much from the views of the beginning of the Western atomic age. Robotic toys respond, receive and execute commands, attempt to communicate and entertain our children. These toys are marvels of robotic toy history as they are affordable and available to most families. This allows for robotic toys such as the Femisapien, by Wowwee, to exist. The Femisapien can communicate and respond to touch, sound and hand gestures. She is given the feminine gender style and is very intelligent. She speaks her own language called "emotish" consisting of gentle sounds and gestures that can tell you what she is thinking at the moment. Even though it has serious engineering involved, there is some play aspects of the Femisapien such as dancing and comedy acts that she can perform when music is playing or when she becomes bored.

The capabilities of modern robotics in toys are exemplified by the amount of entertainment they can provide for children. Obviously, consumer robots are very powerful, but are not designed to carry large work loads and perform very specialized tasks such as industrial robots do. The Tribot by WowWee is a great example of a toy Robot and its modern capabilities. It is very expressive in its facial and body gestures to show programmed emotions. Its three wheeled base allows it to have very accurate turning in any direction. It contains various games and modes to test the abilities of the person controlling its movements. It even contains an alarm function that will cause amusement to all as it is activated and runs around sounding its chimes until it is caught.

The future for toy robotics seems to be endless. There are numerous ways that the robot toys industry can take their ideas. The most common theme is to make them more humanoid and interactive. Another route is to make them more animalistic as pets or companions. This allows even those who are allergic to own a pet which can interact and show intelligence like some of the world's most intelligent species. Making robotic toys with the ability to speak or communicate while understanding and performing complex functions are great suggestions for the near future of robotic toys. Robots toys that you build yourself with products such as the Lego Mindstorm Robotics kits will surely be improved upon.

The possibilities for future robotics will never end, and until the Holy Grail of robotics is reached where life is emulated into complex robot toys, then we have something to look forward to. Robots will always amuse us, keep us company and provide hours upon hours of entertainment. The future of robotics in toys can only be improved upon, and it is only a matter of time before they become friends and companions that we cannot live without.

Amazon's Kindle 2 - Is it an Interesting Gadget?

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

Every tech savvy would have heard the news about Amazon's Kindle 2.0 release last week. Let's look into what the entire buzz is about as it is released today.

Let's first talk about what is this kindle, in favor of non techies who are the beginners for this niche.

"Amazon Kindle is an e-book reader, an embedded system for reading electronic books (e-books), launched in the United States by prominent online bookseller Amazon.com in November 2007. The Kindle was developed by Amazon's Lab126.It uses an electronic paper display and downloads content over Amazon Whisper net using the Sprint EVDO network. The Kindle can be used without a computer, and Whisper net is accessible without any fee."

Now I believe that we have an idea about what a kindle mean? Now let us know what this kindle 2 is.

The newer version of Kindle 2 is an e-book reader has many improvements over its predecessor. Now let us know about the physical structure of it.

It weighs only 10.2 ounces and fits perfectly in your hands. The ergonomics have been improved with change in page-turn button positioning and a new 5-way controller has been added. This device boasts a 25% longer battery life.

Kindle is completely wireless and ready to use right out of the box and you can charge it with either wall charger or USB cable. It uses Amazon's Whisper net technology plus Sprint's national high-speed (3G) data network to wirelessly search, discover, and download content on the go and you don't have to pay any wireless bills.

Kindle 2 has enhanced library and holds over 1,500 Books, and best of all, a copy of every book you purchased is backed up online at Amazon.com for you to download anytime again if you want to. It also features black-and-white 6″ screen with sharp and natural glare-free display. Has the new Text-to-Speech feature with both male and female voices in case you get lazy to read.

Other improvements include 20% faster page turns, annotations to text bookmark your last place in the book, full image zoom, personal documents storage, The New Oxford American Dictionary look up, wireless access to Wikipedia, web search, along with some experimental features like a basic web browser and MP3 and pod cast player.

As this kindle 2 is releasing on Feb24th, a lot of business is expected to be done on this kindle 2. In what way?

Actually this kindle 2 sells for $400+ in Amazon. Some people who have confirmed shipping resell their Kindle 2s for profit in hopes that Amazon will not be able to satisfy the demand during the launch (as there are much greater expectations on this device).Something like that actually happened with Sony PRS-505 was released. Supply was much lower than demand and for months after the official launch it sold on eBay for double its retail price and the same the kindle2 is also planned.

Above all do you think this gadget is worthful at that price? You could just get a net book... either way, as e-books aren't cheap! The screen is too small and it will sell out due to hype with limited production. No touch screen, no wi-fi, they eliminated the SD card slot. Overall a laptop PC is cheaper and many times more versatile.

But the fact is that excluding the price of this deal, it's actually a great device, you can browse first chapters of tons of books free, get them delivered wirelessly in seconds, and the new kindles seems to have fixed the navigation and style flaws of the old one and has sped up refresh rate. But the device itself is a nice next step. They can't make it color until eInk perfects the color screen and it's affordable enough to mass produce. Saying things like just buy a laptop complete misses the point of its small size and simplicity, it's supposed to replace a book and disappear in your hand like a book does, not an easy task.

Some people don't want to carry around a bunch of books. They don't want the clutter of having a stack of books in their house. This device can store plenty of books and you can access them all at the touch of a button. No need to travel to the bookstore. The battery life on this is touted at days with wireless on and weeks with it turned off.

Now that we have discussed about the pros and cons on this topic, the answer lies within it whether it is an interesting device or not.

The $359 Kindle 2 is available from Amazon at no extra shipping cost.
